WAR, TSUNAMI AND
TERROR BOMBINGS
Since 1983, Sri Lanka has endured civil war, a catastrophic tsunami and a devastating terrorist attack. The combined death toll from these tragic events is close to 136,000.
With fewer than 20 training psychologist in the nation, victims of trauma are unlikely to receive significant mental health care and most will never access trauma counselling.
In 2019 we undertook trauma research in Sri Lanka, with participation by 1000 people, through in-person and digital questionnaires. This work was aimed at those touched by the Easter Sunday Bombings of 2019 and those still suffering from the Civil War and Tsunami.
Our Planted for Purpose Trauma Healing and Reconciliation Course is now being used to bring hope and restoration to the people of Sri Lanka.
